This sterling silver fantasy jewelry pendant features a dragon who has flown so far and high that he has reached the moon, where he's taking a moment to rest and visit with his celestial friend. This unique Lunar Dragon Pendant is sure to delight any lover of fantasy jewelry.
This dragon and moon dimensional pendant was created using the lost-wax casting method. After various designs and sketches were completed the dragon and moon were sculpted out of wax. This process takes many enjoyable hours to create a strong overall design, along with precise detail -- note the individual scales on the dragon. When sculpting is complete the wax is invested in plaster and put in a kiln for a burnout cycle, the wax melts and molten silver is poured into the void where the wax used to be. It is cooled for a few minutes, then quenched in water, the plaster breaks away leaving the cast metal. Then excess metal is removed and the piece is given a rough polish. The silver is then oxidized (antiqued) to highlight the detail of the work before it receives a final buff.
The pendant is 7/8 inch wide by 1 7/8 inch tall (to the tip of his tail). Am absolutely THRILLED with the dragon and crescent moon pendant!! Sharon is a brilliant artist! The care and love and thoughtfulness that went into creating this adorable, highly detailed, three dimensional silver sculpture pendant, is easily felt and seen. You can see the dragons tiny toes clutching onto the moons cusp and the expression on the dragons face as it peers at the moons face is just ADORABLE! This is the second piece I’ve purchased from Sharon and I couldn’t be happier! Cannot imagine the hours and hours that went into sculpting every detail possible. You can view the whole dragon and moon from any angle as each angle was carefully planned, and the dragons wings come together at the tip to create a space to hang the pendant from. This is much more than a jewelry piece, its a phenomenal sculpture.
