"Parasol" Faerie and Queen Anne's Lace Giclee Print

"Parasol" Faerie and Queen Anne's Lace Giclee Print

A mischievous faerie finds a bit of shade under the blossom of a Queen Anne's Lace using it as her parasol while it casts patterned shadows across her skin. While many consider this flower a weed, I've always thought the intricacies of Queen Anne's Lace to be beautiful, not to mention a challenge to draw. While depicting a faerie falls fully into the category of fantasy, I also love the beauty of nature and make my drawings as realistic as possible. The original drawing was completed on Strathmore 400 Illustration board using .03 and .02 mechanical pencils, taking over 100 hours to complete.

The perspective of a naturalist combines with a love of fantasy in this ready to frame gicle‏‏e print. Prints are made by giclee experts using the finest quality materials; including heavy, acid free paper, and archival ink. The original graphite drawing is 10 x 24 inches, full size prints are available as a limited edition of 50 prints, each is hand signed and numbered. The fantasy drawing is also available in a smaller sized print, it is 65% of the original size and measures 6 1/2  x 15 1/2 inches, the reduced size print is signed, but is not a limited edition. Both mystical images have a wide boarder for matting and framing. The giclee prints are protected by a Krystal Seal archival bag and sent in a mailing tube.

When creating artwork my fascination with the mystical world intertwines with my love of nature. I am captivated by stories of myth, lore, spirituality and fantasy. While spending time in nature I often feel awed by the splendor that surrounds me; this can be in the form of broad vistas, intimate clusters of vegetation or the elemental forces that helped to create them. The placement of mystical beings in these settings conveys a sense of magic, but also makes a statement that the natural world contains a sentience of which we are often unaware.

I approach my work for the viewpoint of a naturalist, composing graphite drawings to accurately reflect the texture, detail and complexity of the environment, all the while overlaying realistic figures that meld into these settings to create a mystical, yet relevant narrative about the personality or the habitat in which we live.

The original drawing of this print is also available. It was presented at Studio 23 during their "Perfect Pairings" event.
