Spirit Prairie Dog and Girls Giclée Print: Limited Edition Graphite Drawing, Tit
The drawing of two prairie dogs is combined with two young girls at play and taking in the world that surrounds them, and it is part of the "Animalia" series. This drawing combines my perspective as a naturalist with a love of animals along with their symbolism and mysticism. Prarie Dogs symbolize a sense of community, care and playfulness.
The reference that I use for my drawings is all taken from photographs that I've taken while observing animals in the wild and at zoos. The people depicted range from family members and friends to acquaintances and total strangers. I combine animals and people with backgrounds that suit the subjects. The original artwork is created using .2 and .3 mechanical pencils, gradually building up layers of graphite until the desired levels of darkness are met, with great attention to composition, texture, and detail. I approach my work from the viewpoint of a naturalist, combining my subjects and backgrounds. I compose my drawings merging images as I draw to create a feeling of mysticism and a bit of fantasy. While this graphite drawing is 9"x 9" and although small in scale it took almost 70 hours to complete.
In the series “Animalia” I explore the ethereal bond between human figures and animals where there is a narrative of unity and mutual understanding. These drawings remind us of our interconnectedness with the natural world and the unseen forces that bind us together while fostering a sense of compassion and reverence for the interconnected web of life.
My love of animals, mysticism, and the subtle influence they have on our lives come together in this ready-to-frame giclee print of playful prairie dogs and children.
