Spirit Wolf Giclée Print: Limited Edition Graphite Drawing, Title "Devoted Prote
The drawing of a man holding a staff with the image of a wolf overlapping him that is in a woodland setting, it is part of the "Animalia" series. This drawing combines my perspective as a naturalist with a love of animals along with their symbolism and mysticism. Wolves symbolize strength, willpower, cunning, confidence and protection - especially of family
The reference that I use for my drawings is all taken from photographs that I've taken while observing animals in the wild, in preserves and at zoos. The people depicted range from family members and friends to acquaintances and total strangers. I combine animals and people with backgrounds that suit the subjects. original artwork is created using .2 and .3 mechanical pencils, gradually building up layers of graphite until the desired levels of darkness are met, with great attention to composition, texture, and detail. I approach my work from the viewpoint of a naturalist, combining my subjects and backgrounds. I compose my drawings merging images as I draw to create a feeling of mysticism and a bit of fantasy. This graphite drawing of a wolf and man is 14"x 11" and although relatively small in scale it took almost 100 hours to complete.
In the series “Animalia” I explore the ethereal bond between human figures and animals where there is a narrative of unity and mutual understanding. These drawings remind us of our interconnectedness with the natural world and the unseen forces that bind us together while fostering a sense of compassion and reverence for the interconnected web of life.
