Unicorn and Maiden Fantasy Jewelry Necklace with Beads or Chain
Be swept away from the ordinary to a mystical place where unicorns prance and faeries dwell, as a fairy tale takes on form in this fantasy jewelry necklace of sterling silver titled "Magical Refuge". A maiden has left her castle guided by a fox to find a "Magical Refuge" where faeries dwell inside their tree home. Morning glories drape from vines, a rabbit peaks out to see what his happening and a wise tree spirit watches over all, as she encounters a breathtaking unicorn. The scene is complemented with a beautiful Amethyst cabachon and 3 tiers of beads of Amethyst, Moonstone, Labradorite and Black Onyx or available with a triple strand of chain with a Rainbow Moonstone accecnt.
I started by creating a detailed pencil drawing to refine my idea and layout the design of the piece. I then begin to sculpt everything in wax, first by addressing the overall composition, then proportion and musculature of the individual characters, lastly overlaying all of it with detailing. This was a very time and labor intensive process; including facial expressions (maiden, unicorn, tree spirit, rabbit, fox), draping of the gown, roots, flowers and leaves and even giving the maiden a bracelet and arm band to wear. When sculpting was complete it was cast using the lost wax method in sterling silver. A patina was applied in two parts to give some areas a darker finish than others, providing for contrast and interest. This was followed by hand polishing and an application of Renaissance Wax to protect the finish and guard against tarnish.
This fantasy necklace features a beautiful 10mm Amethyst or Rainbow Moonstone. It also has a very unique clasp that catches on the side of the necklace, which keeps the necklace secure, yet fastens easily. The focal point of of the necklace measures 3 7/8 inches wide by 3 5/8 inches tall at it's outer most most edges with the overall length of the necklace measuring about 16 inches on the inside diameter.
